2018 JUMPING FOAL COLLECTION: NEVER BEFORE SO MUCH GRAND PRIX SPORT IN THE FIRST THREE GENERATIONS!

Jul 13, 2018

The foal collection 2018 of the Elite Foal Auction Borculo is known and can now be viewed online on the Borculo website. A total of 63 jumping foals and 70 dressage foals endured the strict selection. They will come under the auction hammer on Wednesday August 29 (jumping foals) and Thursday August 30 (dressage foals) at Paardensportcentrum Lichtenvoorde in Vragender.

Jumping foals closely related to current winners

Looking at the jumping foal collection it’s already clear that never before so much sport at the highest level has been present in the first three generations. As for the sires, proven Grand Prix and breeding stallions are well represented. We see names like Casall (x2), Cornet Obolensky (4x), Cumano, Diamant de Semilly (4x), Harley (3x) and Verdi (3x). These breeding giants form a mix in our collection with current Grand Prix stallions and younger top talent, such as Quabri de l’Isle (2x), Vagabond de la Pomme (2x), Comme Il Faut (4x), Hector van de Abdijhoeve, I’m Special de Muze (2x), Chapeau TN and Casago.

Next to all these big names it’s still mainly the bottom half of the pedigrees that makes the difference with these genetically high-valued foals. Famous broodmares pass by, like Elottie W, Larnike, Larthago, Cold As Ice Z, Fragance de Chalus, Usha van 't Roosakker and Tequila van Spieveld and extra special is that strikingly many foals are closely related to current winners at Grand Prix level. For example, last week we saw Explosion W (Ben Maher), Extra (Olivier Philippaerts) and Zinius (Harrie Smolders) excel at the GCT in Paris and earlier this year also Chaplin (Martin Fuchs), Chin Hin D Hyrencourt (Antonio Alfonso) and Q.Breitling LS (Beezie Madden).

"Compliment to the breeders"

All this in combination with strong conformations and a convincing canter creates the basis for a bright future for this collection, as Jan Markink, president of the Elite Foal Auction Borculo, admits. “On one hand, this is a compliment to our selection committee, consisting of Floris van Leuken, Pieter Jan Berkers and scout Mark Oude Griep, but just as much to the breeders who are able to secure top-level sport more and more in their breeding products. I look with confidence forward to August 29!”
